Parkinsons disease is an extremely debilitating disease that affects one in every 200 people in the United States. When Parkinsons strikes, it causes slow movements, change in facial expression, muddled speech, etc. As you can imagine, because of the debilitating symptoms that goes along with the disease, it drastically changes the life of the person diagnosed. After the disease has taken its course, the patient is an invalid and cannot walk or stand.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for the disease, but there are surgical procedures and medication that can sometimes aid in providing some relief to the patient. Parkinsons often accompanies old age, but can also be hereditary. Most often, if the disease is hereditary, it shows up at an earlier age. Statistics show that 1 in 200 people will develop Parkinsons, its average course is 10 years and results in death, and the disease is more common in men than in women. Do Any Prominant People have Parkinson's Disease?
Surprisingly, there are quite a few prominent people that have Parkinsons disease. The following is a list of just some of the people in our society that have been diagnosed with Parkinsons disease: Mohammed Ali, John Paul the second, Michael J. Fox, Johnny Cash, Janet Reno, Billy Graham, and Vincent Prince. Though these people were able to privately battle the disease, their lives were all drastically changed by it. Even though the disease robbed them of numerous things, Michael J. Fox, Billy Graham, and Johnny Cash chose not to let the disease get them down and have successfully soldiered on as Michael J. Fox said. These three are proof that no matter what life throws your way, you can overcome anything, but you must be determined and stay in a spirit of hope.
